Assessment of proposed marina development, Southampton Water
In support of a proposed marina development on a shipyard site in Southampton Water, Pisces Conservation were requested to assess the invertebrate fauna of the intertidal area and its potential as a food resource for birds, and possible effects of the development on the resident and migratory fish community.
In support of a proposed marina development on a shipyard site in Southampton Water, Pisces Conservation were requested to assess the invertebrate fauna of the intertidal area and its potential as a food resource for birds, and possible effects of the development on the resident and migratory fish community.
Core and quadrat samples were collected from transects down the intertidal zone, and their invertebrate fauna analysed; from these data the density and diversity of the invertbrate community were assessed. Reference to existing literature and previous studies by Pisces provided in-depth knowledge of the local fish community.
Pisces staff have considerable experience in invertebrate sampling and fisheries matters, and are thus well placed to assess issues such as this. Staff used Pisces' own Community Analysis Package software to analyse the data obtained. As well as many years of local experience working in the Solent area, Pisces hold a library of thousands of research papers, internal reports and grey literature which forms an invaluable resource for researching local faunal communities.
