Road strengthening, Lundy island
Pisces Conservation has acted as ecological advisor to the Lundy Island Company and Landmark Trust for a number of years, on a range of issues affecting the island. In 2007, Pisces was asked to write the Environmental Impact Statement for proposed road strengthening and cliff stabilisation projects.
Most of Lundy is an SSSI, and the seas around the island were designated Britain's first Marine Nature Reserve. Any proposal therefore needed very careful planning and research to ensure that the risk of harm to the delicate ecosystems was minimised.
Pisces carried out an ecological survey of the beaches, cliff features and intertidal habitats, ran a comparison with historical ecological data, and collated survey and historical data from other disciplines to complete the Environmental Impact Statement.
