Lagoon & sand dune vegetation surveys
Pisces Conservation was requested to carry out vegetation surveys at the Easington Lagoons SSSI in the East Riding of Yorkshire, to assess changes occurring since previous surveys carried out in the early 2000s.
The SSSI site, the lagoons themselves, and the general geomorphology of the dune and beach system, had changed dramatically, through inundation by the sea. Our team carried out Phase 1 walk-over, quadrat and transect surveys and vegetation mapping to assess the current state of the site.
GIS layers showing the current and historical lagoon outlines were created for the site maps, along with NVC vegetation types present, using ArcView. The dominant vegetation community was observed to have changed considerably as a result of the altered geomorphology.
Pisces staff have long experience in vegetation surveying, and can provide high-quality NVC classification with full integration of GIS and other mapping technologies.
